Interesting Local Facts:
Pellam's Corner - Located on the curve at North Elm and West Yount Street, was the site of an ice business; before that it was an axe handle factory, and before that it was "The Creamery." It was a branch of The Ballard Ice Cream Co. 1900 -1919. Franklin and Marie (Pellam) Myers said that many area dairy farmers brought their milk there. It was recorded how much each farmer brought. The milk was separated into cream and skim milk. The skim milk was given to the farmers for their hogs or chickens, the cream was shipped. 300 gallons of cream per day and 2000 gallons per month were shipped to the Indianapolis Ballard Ice Cream Company. Marie's grandfather, Dan Pellam, ran the company. They also made good ice cream locally. His brother and sisters last name was spelled Pelham, the original spelling. There has also been been another spelling regarding their name, a misprint of their name as Pellman is recorded in the Clinton County Sesquicentennial Book. One can see an example of how through publishing, birth certificates, or military records names can be changed over time from this family.
