Tippecanoe County 4-H Horse & Pony Club

Horse Bowl,               Hippology,                Judging,                     Drill Team

Horse Bowl can best be described as "It's Academic", only with horse-related questions. Teams of four face off in front of a panel of judges and a moderator. One-on-one questions are restricted to one player from each team, whereas open questions can be answered by any member on a team. In order to get the chance to answer, competitors must ring the buzzer in front of them faster than the other players. Both teams and individuals compete for respective awards.

The Hippology Contest blends the education values of Horse Bowl, Judging, Stable Management and showing into one unique activity. The contest consists of judging halter and/or performance classes, completing a written exam, answering questions from horse related slides, and two team problems for senior teams only. This is an excellent opportunity for 4-H’ers to expand their horse knowledge and demonstrate their management skills acquired through the 4-H Horse & Pony Program.

Drill Team

The judging team gives members a unique opportunity to judge breeds of various Equine. The members judge the class to the best of their ability. When judging, the three main areas that one concentrates on are conformation, character of breed and correctness of legs. Each breed has its own description and ideal conformation. The students also have to give oral reasons for two of the classes.

Equine drill teams require horses and riders to work in tandem with one another and with their fellow members. It means hours of learning a routine and trying to perfect it. But for most 4-H equine team members it also means getting to spend time atop their horses.  Members learn how to ride, plan and pick music to present a Drill Team performance at our county Fair.
